The Sample Landscape Report: 2026 Edition
How AI, Fraud, and Structural Shifts Are Redefining Online Sample
Sophisticated fraud, high-frequency participation, AI influenced behavior, and growing pressure on feasibility and quality were once considered emerging risks. Now they're built into the system. In EMI’s eighth annual Sample Landscape Report, we focus on what’s actually changing—and what it means for the integrity of your data in 2026 and beyond.
Inside This Year’s Report:
• Panel Performance, Reframed
Why awareness and intent alone fall short—and how quality (QORs) changes panel evaluation.
• The Reality of Modern Fraud
From “Chameleons” to coordinated bots, the new personas reshaping data quality.
• AI’s Dual Impact
Not just synthetic respondents—real respondents using AI are changing behavior and outputs.
• Economic Pressure & Feasibility Decline
Why respondents are harder to reach—and what it means for cost, timing, and reliability.
The 3D Sample Landscape
Awareness × Purchase Intent × Quality (QORs)
This is the first year the Sample Landscape introduces a third dimension: quality. Historically, panels have been compared using metrics like brand awareness and purchase intent. But those alone don't show the whole picture. Panels with identical awareness levels can produce very different outcomes once quality is factored in.
The addition of QORs (Quality Optimization Rating) changes the conversation:
• It incorporates pre-, in-, and post-survey signals
• It exposes hidden differences between panels
• It shows why no single metric tells the full story
What it means:
Two panels can look identical on the surface—but deliver fundamentally different data quality and decision risk.
Why This Year's Report Is Essential:
For years, the industry has treated many of these issues as manageable risks, but in 2026 they are structural realities. This report provides a clear-eyed look at the forces shaping your data before you ever analyze it.
If you’re making decisions based on survey data, you need to understand the system producing it.
